My story

wattletreehill_studio_view_2

Wattle Tree Hill was born from a love for the land, rehabilitation, and building from nature’s resources, with the least practical environmental impact. I am a horticulturist and have, from a young age, had an interest in gardening and nature. It had long been a goal of mine to buy a piece of land that had been cleared, and return it to its natural state as much as possible. I purchased the Wattle Tree Hill site in 2016. It was a cow paddock then, without any shrubs or trees, and almost no native grass. I started planting trees and grasses that are naturally occurring in this region. Regeneration is a slow process, and early progress was made difficult by drought. While many native plants are drought-tolerant, this is generally for established plants. However, many species of birds are returning, as are beneficial insects and along with varieties of lizards and frogs.

The studios have been designed to be thermally efficient, built of timber, straw and lime render. The interior raw walls and organic styling, timber window frames reflect the use of renewable, natural materials, and the bathrooms are tiled with travertine. I want my guests to feel that they are removed from their everyday experience, and can take in the natural character and serenity of the surroundings.

It is my hope that you will enjoy your stay so much that you will come back time and again and see the landscape change as it regenerates.
